SAW 4 MOVIE
And the fact that the events have been happening simultaneously isn't as spelled out as the twists in these films usually are, requiring the audience to do a lot of logic puzzle work in their heads at a time in the movie where they should be "done" with thinking and just reveling in the final moments of what is supposed to be a horror movie. By the time Angus Macfadyen appears in this entry, we've already gotten invested in the other two storylines (Matthews' fate and Rigg's test), and so when he comes stumbling into a sequence asking about his daughter, it hurts the tension of the main threads and also has the audience distracted for a bit trying to remember who he was if they hadn't watched Saw III since its theatrical run the year before. The main problem is that they never bother to reintroduce Jeff in the narrative until he's about to (spoiler) get shot to death by a new character who had no idea who he was. That's a problem for a movie in a series that lives or dies on its big reveals - I'm not saying it's a bad twist, but the execution could have been handled better. I remember coming out of Saw IV with folks who I know had seen/enjoyed the previous films, and they didn't quite get the film's twist. No one could understand every single thing in a Saw movie if they missed one, but this is the first time where major plot points simply would not make any sense unless you knew the first three, and knew them well. That said, Saw IV is a bit better than I remember, though its insistence on playing strictly to the fanbase puts it at a disadvantage the first three films didn't have.

One And Done: Justin Louis as Art Blank never appears in new footage again, despite his significance to Jigsaw's past (which would be the entirety of Tobin Bell's role from here on out), and Rigg's various test people served their one purpose here.īrian: We're at the halfway point! Also we're mostly in the decline of the series Saw VI is really good but otherwise by any measure the back half of the Saw series is nowhere near as good as the front.
SAW 4 PLUS
R.I.P.: Trevor (Mausoleum Trap), Brenda (Hair Trap), Ivan (Bedroom Trap), Rex (Spike/Impalement Trap), Cecil (Blade Trap/Razor Wire Trap), Jeff (shot), Eric Matthews (Ice Block Trap), Rigg (shot), Art Blank (shot), plus John and Jill's unborn child, named Gideon.Īnswered Questions: Where did Matthews go? (Jigsaw's been apparently saving him for one final game, and he gets killed.) Is Jigsaw REALLY dead? (Yes.) Is Amanda REALLY dead? (Yes.) Where does Jigsaw find all of these lowlifes? (Apparently they all went to his wife's clinic.)
